Nude Study

Original signed oil painting by Swedish artist Birger Ljungquist (1894–1965), dated 1949.

This mid-century work depicts a seated nude woman against a vibrant natural backdrop with rich brushwork and earthy tones. Ljungquist’s figural paintings are highly regarded, and this example, at 50 × 58 cm (19.7 × 22.8 in), is a substantial and visually striking piece.

Artist Background
Birger Ljungquist’s work is represented in several major Scandinavian collections. The Swedish Modern Art Gallery holds thirteen of his paintings, and his art can also be found in the museums of Gothenburg, Kalmar, Norrköping, Borås, Bergen, and Linköping. The Swedish National Gallery houses a self-portrait — a testament to his lasting recognition in Sweden’s cultural history.
