Mountain Landscape

A large winter landscape built in broad, confident strokes. Snow lies in planes of cream and lilac, cut through by a narrow track that draws the eye into the distance. Dark fir trees rise in rhythm against a pale, restless sky, while low blue hills anchor the horizon. The palette is restrained – muted greens, slate blues and ochres – with the paint handled decisively rather than delicately.

The composition is simple and structured, typical of mid-century Scandinavian landscape painting, with an emphasis on form and atmosphere over detail. The original gilt frame suits the work, showing age and patina consistent with the period.
