A still life of white flowers set against a deep, muted background. The blooms are built up with short strokes of white and soft grey, giving the petals weight and presence.

Darker greens in the surrounding foliage create contrast and allow the flowers to stand out gently from the surface. The composition is simple and balanced, with the darker ground lending the painting a calm, atmospheric quality.

A quietly expressive still life with a calm, natural feel.

Oil on canvas by Amédée Muselier (France, 1877-1949) signed lower right.

Dimensions 36.5x45cm

Note the wear on the frame and the canvas has an area of softness (lower right) which can be pressed in slightly, typical of paintings of this age. 

 

About the artist: Amédée Muselier (1877–1949) was a French painter known for his still lifes and floral studies. Working in the early twentieth century, he favoured simple arrangements and a restrained palette, creating compositions that focus on balance, colour and quiet atmosphere.
