Green Horizon

A striking mid-century abstract landscape painted with broad, confident sweeps of colour. Deep greens, muted blues and earthy tones move across the panel in layered brushstrokes, suggesting the rhythm of hills, trees and open land without describing the scene literally.

The composition has a strong horizontal format, giving the painting a sense of movement across the surface. Areas of darker paint anchor the upper edge while softer greens and ochres flow through the foreground, creating depth and balance through colour alone.

Up close the surface reveals energetic brushwork and thickly applied paint, while from a distance the composition settles into a calm, modern landscape structure.

The long, narrow format gives the piece a distinctive presence and makes it particularly effective above a console, desk or shelf or addition to a gallery wall.

Oil on panel by artist Bengt Crantz (Sweden, 1916-2000) and signed lower left. 

Dimensions 23x58cm framed.

About the artist: Crantz was a Swedish painter associated with mid-century Scandinavian modernism. His work explored landscape through expressive colour and simplified forms, often moving between representation and abstraction. Crantz exhibited during his lifetime and his work is represented in the collection of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, one of Sweden’s leading museums of modern art.
