The Forest Edge

A large and impactful landscape built from flattened shapes and layered greens, the composition sits somewhere between observation and abstraction — trees reduced to vertical forms, foliage broken into soft, interlocking planes. The pale trunks cut through deeper tones and lead the eye across the surface.

The palette is restrained but nuanced — olive, moss and sage, with darker accents adding depth. 

At this scale, it works particularly well in a living space, study or hallway. The restrained palette also makes it a strong pairing with natural materials: wood, linen, plaster, and soft neutrals.

A considered mid-century piece that leans gently towards abstraction, making it as relevant in a contemporary interior as it would be in a more traditional setting.

Oil on canvas by Erik Idar (Sweden, 1911-1972) and dated 1955. 

Professionally re-stretched and reframed in ash, hand-stained and wax finished to walnut.
