Summer Day

A large mid-century Scandinavian landscape by Thorvald Petersen, painted in 1963.

The composition is built through a loose screen of trees, opening onto a house and garden beyond. Layers of green are handled with a confident, abbreviated brush, creating depth through variation rather than detail.

There’s a strong sense of structure beneath the surface — the vertical rhythm of the trees set against softer, open passages of light and colour. The result feels both grounded and relaxed, with a natural balance that sits easily within an interior.

Fresh but not overly bright, it brings colour without dominating a space — a piece that works as well in a quieter setting as it does anchoring a room.

Presented in a gilt frame that adds warmth and contrast to the palette.
