Along the Shore

An atmospheric original Swedish coastal painting by Iwan Broberg, depicting a rocky shoreline at Stenungsund on Sweden's west coast.

Working with expressive, textured brushstrokes, Broberg captures the movement of the grey-green sea as small waves break against a rugged, ochre-coloured shore. A distant wooded headland stretches across the horizon beneath a softly overcast sky.

The composition has a wonderfully natural, windswept quality, with thick passages of oil paint lending texture and movement to the water and rocks. Muted greens, slate blues, sandy yellows and earthy browns combine to create a beautifully understated coastal palette.

Presented in a simple pale silver-toned frame, which complements the painting's cool coastal colours.

A characterful original oil painting that captures the quiet, rugged beauty of the Swedish shoreline.

Oil on canvas by Iwan Broberg (Sweden, 1887-1975), signed lower right and dated 1940.
