A charming Swedish landscape by Alvar Lundin, depicting a row of slender orchard trees set against a patchwork of open fields, distant farm buildings and a wonderfully expressive sky.

Painted with loose, confident brushstrokes, the composition has an appealing balance of structure and spontaneity. Soft ochres and earthy greens are punctuated by terracotta rooftops and a fresh sweep of turquoise blue overhead. The simplified trees and blocks of colour give the scene a distinctly modern feel.

The painting is housed in a beautiful, substantial vintage frame, with darkened gilt tones and a wonderfully worn surface. Its aged character complements the painting's rustic palette and makes the piece particularly lovely as a complete object.

A quietly distinctive landscape, full of texture, colour and countryside charm.

Oil on canvas by Alvar Lundin (Sweden, 1884-1974), signed lower left.

Dimensions 48.5 × 42.5 cm framed.
