Vue Sur Le Port

A richly textured French harbour scene painted with remarkable movement and light. Thick, expressive brushwork pulls the eye through the composition — from the pale stone buildings and harbour wall to the restless blue-green water beyond. There is a wonderful looseness to the foreground, where foliage and shoreline dissolve into sweeping strokes of turquoise, ochre and cream.

The painting carries that distinctly mid-century French feeling: sun-washed colour, painterly confidence and an effortless balance between structure and spontaneity. The heavily worked surface gives the piece real depth in person, while the sculptural carved frame adds warmth and presence.

An atmospheric coastal work with strong decorative impact.

The reverse of the frame still bears its original Parisian framemaker’s label from Rue de Rennes, adding to the painting’s distinctly French provenance.

Condition: the frame is in beautiful condition. There is some historic paint loss to the lower right, visible in the final photograph. The painting’s richly textured impasto surface means it reads naturally within the composition.
