House Among Trees

A small, atmospheric Italian landscape centred on a simple house nestled among trees, painted in soft, earthy tones. The composition is modest and grounded — a low building, a single tree rising behind it, and dense, loosely handled foliage that gives the whole scene a sense of quiet enclosure.

The paint is worked with a gentle, textured touch, building up the landscape through short, expressive strokes rather than fine detail. There’s a warmth running through the palette — ochres, greens and muted browns — which gives it that settled, slightly sun-worn feel typical of northern Italian landscapes.

The smaller scale has a lovely presence and sits easily on its own or as part of a group. The original textile mount and gilt frame add a nice warmth, giving it a bit more depth than a standard frame. 

Oil on board behind glaze by artist Costante Guaresi (Italy, 1896-1959) and dated 1952.

Dimensions 39 x 33cm framed. 

Good vintage condition, some fraying to the inside of the linen mount, as pictured but unnoticeable when hung.
