A beautifully restrained coastal landscape by Carl Köhler, painted in softened tones of sea green, grey and muted rose. Loose expressive brushwork and broad areas of colour give the composition a calm, atmospheric quality, while the dark silhouette of the small building anchors the scene quietly against the expansive shoreline and sky. A delicate wisp of chimney smoke drifts into the air, adding a subtle sense of warmth and life to the otherwise still landscape.

There is a simplicity to the painting that feels distinctly Scandinavian — understated, painterly and deeply restful. The original frame suits the palette well, adding a gentle warmth to the cooler tones of the work.
