Landscape with Houses

A beautifully atmospheric midcentury landscape by Bertil Lundqvist, painted in 1946 with expressive brushwork and a softened, earthy palette of sage green, ochre, dusty blue and warm clay tones. The winding road draws the eye gently through the composition toward the sunlit hillside, while the loose handling of the trees and distant mountains gives the painting movement and painterly depth.

There is a wonderful balance here between structure and spontaneity — distinctly Scandinavian in restraint, yet full of warmth and light. The original gilt frame complements the ochre tones of the landscape beautifully, giving the work a quietly elevated presence.
