November Stillness

November Stillness is an atmospheric Swedish landscape by Per Gummesson (1858–1928), depicting a quiet November day near Röstånga in southern Sweden.

A small red farmhouse sits amongst dark woodland and autumnal vegetation, overlooking a sweeping landscape of distant hills and mist-softened trees.

Painted in a beautifully restrained palette of smoky greys, muted mauves, deep forest greens and warm earthy browns, the composition captures the particular stillness of the Scandinavian countryside as autumn gives way to winter.

The artist's delicate handling of the distant landscape creates a wonderful sense of depth, while the darker foreground and warmly coloured farmhouse bring intimacy and contrast to the scene.

There is something deeply peaceful about this painting. Its subdued colours and gentle atmosphere evoke the quiet beauty of a November afternoon.

Presented in a substantial vintage frame with dark wood-effect detailing and gold-toned edges, which complements the painting's autumnal palette.

A wonderfully atmospheric original landscape for a thoughtfully collected interior.
