Patchwork Terrain

A beautifully restrained Swedish landscape by Thure Wahlström, painted in a palette of softened sage, stone and chalky grey. The composition dissolves gently into blocks of colour and loose architectural forms, giving the work an almost abstract quietness while still holding onto the rhythm of the landscape.

There is something deeply Scandinavian in its restraint — muted light, pared-back colour, and an atmosphere that feels contemplative rather than picturesque. The surface has a lovely dry texture throughout, with confident palette-knife passages and softened edges that give the painting a calm, modern sensibility.

An understated but very sophisticated mid-century work.
