A wonderfully expressive French still life depicting two silver fish and a golden lemon, painted with confident, sweeping brushstrokes against a dramatic black background.

Soft tones of sea green, silver, pale yellow and cream bring the fish to life, while the dark backdrop gives the composition a striking, almost graphic quality. The paint has been applied with a wonderfully loose touch, capturing the shimmer of the fish and the folds of the pale surface beneath them.

Presented in a traditional gilt frame, the painting has a particularly appealing contrast between its modern, painterly composition and more classical presentation.

Full of character, this original French oil painting would make a beautiful addition to a kitchen, dining room or eclectic gallery wall.
