Summer by the Sea | Skagen Coastal Oil Painting

Summer by the Sea is an expressive coastal painting by Danish artist Aage Bernhard Frederiksen (1883–1963), depicting the shoreline at Skagen, Denmark.

Painted in a beautifully fresh palette of turquoise blues, soft sea greens and sandy neutrals, the composition captures the movement of waves breaking gently along the beach. Loose, confident brushstrokes give the water a wonderful sense of energy, while tiny figures and buildings along the distant shoreline bring life and scale to the scene.

The broad expanse of blue sea and sky creates a feeling of openness and tranquillity, evoking the light and atmosphere of a summer's day on Denmark's northern coast.

Presented in a simple vintage gilt frame, which complements the painting's soft coastal palette.

A charming original Scandinavian painting, full of light, movement and the easy atmosphere of a day by the sea.
