An atmospheric Swedish winter landscape painted by Kjerstin Halden in 1960.

Broad, expressive brushstrokes in powder blue, soft grey and chalky white suggest the last snow and ice along a quiet shoreline. Small red buildings punctuate the distant landscape, bringing a gentle warmth to the otherwise cool palette.

The unusually elongated composition gives the painting a wonderful sense of space, while its loose, almost abstract handling of the landscape makes it feel distinctly modern.

Signed and dated 1960, the painting is presented in a vintage wood-toned frame with a pale linen surround.

Oil on canvas by Kjerstin Halden (Sweden, 1923-2022) signed lower right and dated 1960.

Dimensions 77x40cm framed.

A couple of areas of minor paint loos as shown in the last photo which doesn't detract from the painting.
