The Stillness of Summer

A quietly atmospheric Swedish landscape, dated 1947.

A cluster of rounded trees rises beyond open fields, their deep olive and forest-green forms set against a soft, blue-grey sky. The composition is beautifully pared back, with broad areas of muted colour and simplified shapes giving the landscape a distinctly modernist character.

A dark horizontal line stretches across the foreground, creating a striking contrast with the softer greens, ochres and earthy browns of the surrounding countryside. The restrained palette and confident brushwork lend the scene a lovely sense of stillness.

Painted in oil on canvas and presented in a warm, aged gilt-toned frame that complements the understated colours of the painting.

A charming original mid-century landscape, full of quiet character and beautifully suited to a considered gallery wall.

Oil on canvas by unidentified artist (Swedish origin) and dated 1947.

Dimensions 33 × 49 cm framed.
