The Coastal Garden
- Free UK shipping
An expressive Swedish coastal landscape by Torsten Torstenson, depicting a rocky shoreline overlooking the sea, with wildflowers and grasses spilling across the foreground.
Painted in a wonderfully distinctive palette, the composition combines rich cobalt and inky blue with soft coral pinks, earthy browns and fresh greens. The coastline is reduced to broad, almost abstract bands of colour, while the foreground comes alive with energetic marks suggesting flowers, foliage and windswept coastal vegetation.
There is a lovely sense of movement throughout the painting, with textured, layered brushwork giving the landscape a lively, spontaneous quality. The balance of strong colour and loosely defined forms makes it feel particularly at home in a modern interior.
Presented in a simple vintage silver-grey and pale gilt frame, which complements the cooler blues of the painting without competing with its colour.
Oil on panel by Torsten Torstenson (Sweden, 1901-1974), signed lower right.
Dimensions 59 × 51 cm framed.
